Today we harvested from all our varieties of hops! The Cascade is getting to the end of it's season with the lupulin starting to dry up in some of the hops, but the Comet is still going strong with plenty of good lupulin. The Galena and Tahoma we hope do better next year as they've both produced small hops with little lupulin.

Today on the Urban Farm we had our first harvest of Galena hops and our second harvest of the Comet hops! Our Galena hops have been smaller than the rest of the hop varieties so far and seem to have a harder time producing lupulin. We have thought of a few reasons why this may be happening: They might be putting their energy into their root system this year; or They might not be getting enough water (plants are like people, we all need the same basic things to survive but not all of us need the same amounts). It could be something else but part of farming is figuring that stuff out and putting solutions into place when needed.

Today we helped Pherm Brewery cut up the peppers we brought them for their beer! They let us try some of the beer they made with the hops we brought them as we worked! It's called the Hopped Up Urban Pharmer! On tap now at Pherm! The pepper beer will be on tap in about 3 weeks, called the Spicy Urban Pharmer!

Today at the AAUFRC we had our first harvest of hops! Pherm Brewery asked for 1lb of fresh hops for their beer, a number which we met seven fold. We gave them 5.5lbs of the Cascade variety which is the leading industry standard variety, and we gave them 2lbs of the Comet variety. Our hops really amazed us with how much they produced in their first year, typically you would not see numbers like this until year two or three! While we were out with the hops we also fixed the post that had broken in our storm last Tuesday. We used wood glue and screws in some extra 2x4s to hold it all together.

Today Dave, Brian and I harvested our Serrano and Jalapeno peppers for Pherm Brewery for their beer. They requested 20lbs. of Jalapenos and 10lbs. of Serrano, but in total we gave them 55lbs. of peppers, overshooting our mark. (Dave, Brian, Henry, and Bear at Pherm Brewery weighing the buckets of peppers we picked)
