A summary of what's been going on at the farm lately! Our first harvest of corn was on September 1st. We continued to harvest corn and corn stalks for decoration throughout September.  The corn, pumpkins and Sunflowers were mowed down on October 3rd.  On October 11th a broadcast seeder and disk harrow were used to seed our cover crop, 1.5 bushels of rye per acre. October 19th was our last harvest of our peppers in the hightunnel. The plants were removed on that day as well after a long and bountiful season.
This past week we have had our biggest count of Corn Earworm (CEW), 33 to be exact. To put this in perspective normal counts from farms that have been established for years typically get counts in the hundreds, so is quite low in comparison but it is still high enough that we will need to take care of it.  It is also odd to get a count this high so late in the season but it does happen and instead of taking the trap down as planned, we will continue the count for another month at least.
